For Puppies up to 20 weeks

What will we learn in Puppy School classes ?

Your tutor will guide you clearly through each exercise, offering individual help & advice where needed or requested. Class numbers are kept small; 6-8 puppies as a maximum to ensure this can be achieved. Methods used at Puppy School are positive, any negative or punative actions are prohibited.

All puppies will be 20 weeks or under on course start date so the group will be of similar age/size to interact and socialise more effectively. As long as your puppy has been vaccinated and cleared by your vet, they can begin Puppy School classes straight away.

Puppy School believe in the benefits of early socialisation, so are happy for puppies to join only having had their first vaccination, but owners must seek advice from their own veterinary surgeon if this is the case.

During the 6-hourly lessons, you and your puppy will be taught the following:

  • Positions: Sit, Down & Stand
  • Coming back when called
  • Walking on a loose lead
  • Stop playbiting
  • How to meet people & children appropriately
  • Preparing your puppy for handling at the vet/groomers
  • Leave when asked
  • Wait
  • How to play successfully
  • Playing with other puppies
  • Food bowl & bone manners
  • How to settle

Owners will have the opportunity to purchase invaluable training aids, toys and books at classes- all appropriate to helping you teach your new puppy essential 'training for life' skills.

Exercises progress gradually over the sessions to further your puppy's knowledge & development. Each puppy will learn at a different rate so there is no need to feel pressured if yours takes a little longer to grasp it, and tutors will never single out or shame owners in any circumstances.

~Classes are focused on training in a fun & friendly atmosphere~

At the end of each session your 'homework' is given out so training at home can be continued. This is just a reminder of what was learnt in class, and the more practice in short sessions that is carried out between lessons, the more progress you will see at home and in the next class.

Owners and their pups will receive the coveted Puppy School certificate and rosette upon completion of the six-week course.
